DIY Christmas paper stars to decorate with

minimal DIY paper stars

I love making paper Christmas decorations because they’re environmentally friendly and they look so beautiful and natural. One of my favourites to make is DIY paper stars. I love how versatile paper stars are – they look great as tree ornaments, as table decorations, mantle decorations, Christmas gift toppers and so much more.

There are loads of DIY Christmas paper stars out there to choose from but I wanted to make something simple, minimal and easy to make. I think these 8-point paper stars do all that and look so festive too. I’m thinking of using mine on my Christmas table as DIY napkin rings strung on to napkins with some twine and maybe I’ll add some greenery to complete the look.

The stars are easy to make as you’ll see from the video below. Also, you can make your own template or you can download my free one which you’ll find at the end of this article.

For these DIY paper stars, I’ve used recycled thin card paper which worked really well. You don’t want the card to be too thick as it won’t work as well.

They’re really easy to put together once you’ve made and cutout all the pieces. All you do is cut the diamond shaped pieces in the middle and slide them in to alternate points on the star. If this sounds confusing, watch the video and you’ll see how easy it is.

I opted for neutral colours because well… I always do! Also, I already had this lovely recycled paper in my craft supplies. But you can choose any colour you like — kraft paper card would look great or you could opt for green since it’s Christmas after all. I’m also liking the idea of making these DIY stars in an ombre style, perhaps a few different shades of beige or blush.

Here’s a short video showing you how to assemble these DIY paper Christmas stars:
