Minimal and chic DIY accessory organiser

DIY accessory organiser

As you’ve probably figured, we’re called your DIY family for a reason.  The reason – my entire little family will be sharing their creativity and DIY’s with you.  You’ve met my daughter Anya who creates kids craft video tutorials and now it’s time to introduce you to my husband Richard. (If you want to see a pic, he’s on my about page).

I’m the one who makes the little things for our home while it’s Richard who creates all kinds of big DIY’s. It’s usually me who ‘needs’ something but buying it isn’t an option, either because it doesn’t exist or it’s too expensive.  And besides, it’s always more fun to make your own – you end up with exactly what you want like this open wardrobe we just made.

So between us we design it and he makes it.  I think he’s happy to do it because I can be really messy – think clothes all over the bed, scarves on the floor, shoes piled up by the door – you get the idea. He is a neat freak so anything to help me be a bit tidier!

DIY accessory organiser for bedroom

Today I’m sharing our latest creation – this DIY accessories organizer for the bedroom.  Not only is is great for hanging your jewellery, but you can hang scarves, sunglasses and other accessories too. The full tutorial is quite long so I’ve included it as a free downloadable PDF – all explained step by step. Making this DIY accessories organizer is not difficult even though it does take a bit of time.  But, the end result is so worth it.  If you want the full step by step instructions, don’t forget to get your free PDF below.

I’ve always kept my accessories buried deep in drawers which means I forget to wear them nearly as often as I’d like to, especially my necklaces.  I thought it would be very handy to have them in sight in my bedroom and Richard of course wanted to ensure that my stuff looked neat, not piled up in a heap somewhere!  I also wanted something minimal and chic that wouldn’t take up much room and would be more like a feature in our bedroom.  We came up with the idea of a metal accessory ladder which looks cool and is so practical and useful too.

Richard went about making this DIY accessories organizer which is not too hard to make.  The trickiest part is getting the measurements right but that’s all explained all that in the tutorial.  We went for black as we have a monochrome bedroom so it perfectly complemented our decor.  I’m using it to hang my necklaces, sunglasses, that chunky scarf (which took up nearly half my wardrobe!) and my everyday handbag which used to lie on the floor.  We’re planning to add our watches on there and other bits and pieces.

I’ve also found it really handy to hang a magazine or two – I usually throw my current reads on the floor by my bed but now they have a home.

Richard has put together detailed step by step instructions for you, on how to make this DIY accessories organizer.  The downloadable PDF is FREE – just enter your name and email address in the box below or above and you’ll get your free PDF delivered straight to your inbox.

Do you think you’ll make one of these? Let us know if you do – we’d love to see pics.  And if you like this, don’t miss our minimal open wardrobe diy.

How wonderful to get the whole family involved. My husband cringes at the idea of myself creating something for the nest, although since he sets the bar so low for me he is pleasantly surprised with a handful of my projects (especially since I don’t break the bank doing it.) Happy creating, crafting, and refurbishing!
