7 ways to add wood to your bathroom decor for a cosier space

white bathroom with wooden vanity

When designing a bathroom, we often default to white or pale tiles, lots of ceramic, stone finishes and glass screens. While these materials are great for a bathroom, you can end up with a space that feels cold and uninviting. And nobody wants that. Natural wood, on the other hand, can do wonders for a bathroom. We include wood in almost every other room in our homes but not so much in bathrooms. Adding wood to a bathroom, even in a small way, can make it instantly cosy and calming while bringing the outdoors in. And wood creates the perfect contrast to cooler bathroom materials like marble and ceramic.

If you’re wondering if adding wood to a bathroom means a remodel, the good news is that it doesn’t. There are lots of simple ways to add wooden decor in a bathroom. Aside from adding warmth to a bathroom, wood also elevates the space and makes it look more expensive. Even a bathroom decorated on a budget will look more high-end with some wooden decor. So here are some ways in which you can add some wood to any bathroom.

6 wood bathroom decor ideas

1.wooden vanity

The vanity is central to any bathroom. It’s almost like a focal point in the bathroom so this is one of the most impactful ways to add wood to a bathroom if you can. There are lots of options when it comes to wooden bathroom vanities — you can simply buy a vanity made of wood or you can DIY one out of reclaimed wood. You can also repurpose a wooden console table which is what I did when I remodelled my bathroom. If not a console table, you can repurpose any appropriate wooden cabinet both new and vintage.

2. wooden accent wall

While I love a wooden bathroom vanity, it isn’t for everyone and it does mean a partial bathroom renovation which can be expensive. Another way to get the warmth of wood in to a bathroom is to create a wooden accent wall with wooden slats. This look can be done in any bathroom that has an appropriate wall or can be done in one of the shower walls too. The slatted wood not only looks aesthetically pleasing and almost spa like, but it will add tons of warmth to your bathroom too.

3. wooden ceiling

If a wooden accent wall isn’t possible, you could add wooden slats to the ceiling which work just as well. The wooden ceiling creates a feeling of warmth and cosiness. Also the wooden ceiling works well with any style of bathroom — modern, minimalist or even traditional. And, if possible in your bathroom,  you could even do both a wooden accent wall that continues on to the ceiling.

4. wooden flooring

Wooden flooring in a bathroom is wonderful for many reasons but my favourite thing about it is that it’s so much nicer to step on than cold tiles. Wooden flooring looks great too and can add a lot of interest and contrast to an all white bathroom. If you do go for this in your bathroom there’s one caveat — you need to make sure the wood is treated and sealed to prevent water damage or leaks. This shouldn’t be a problem though, if you buy wooden floors that are made specifically for bathrooms.

5. wood flooring in the shower

If you can’t go for wooden flooring throughout your bathroom, you can instead simply add wooden slats on your shower floor. There are only a few types of wood that are suitable for this so you’ll need to do your research here to make sure it can withstand all that water. But if you can go for it, it looks so great, giving your bathroom a warm minimalist look.

6. wooden accessories

There are loads of wooden decor accessories appropriate for a bathroom. Think mirrors with wooden frames, a wooden towel ladder, wooden shelves or a wooden stool. This is the easiest, quickest and most affordable way to add a wooden touch to any existing bathroom. Just adding a small wooden touch can cosy up any bathroom that feels cold or feels like it’s missing something.

7. add a wooden door

Wooden decor in a bathroom doesn’t have to be limited to floors, ceilings, cabinets and accessories. It’s not always possible to do these things due to space and budget. But every bathroom, no matter how small, has a door and this is the perfect opportunity to add a wooden touch to your bathroom by adding a wooden door. It’s easy to do and you get the warmth and cosiness of wooden bathroom decor.
