Little decor ideas for big impact: match wall color with furniture

how to match wall color with furniture

I’ve often talked about the superpower of paint because it costs so little and can entirely transform a room very quickly.  Today I’m sharing one of my favourite little decor ideas for big impact which is to match wall color with furniture.

Painting walls and furniture in the same color started off as something of a trend but it’s so much more than that.  It’s a very simple idea that’s easy for anyone to do and the results are off the scale.  I should add that by furniture I don’t mean just shelves, cabinets etc but also things like radiators and doors – or just about anything that can be painted.

We often think we need big budgets to transform our rooms but there are so many easy decor ideas that don’t cost much at all and that’s what I love about this one –  I mean it doesn’t get more budget friendly than a pot or two of paint.

Here’s what happens when you match wall color with furniture:

1. Effortless co-ordination

Your room looks effortlessly co-ordinated. It comes together without you having to spend time and money buying stuff to make your room appear harmonious.

2. Small rooms look bigger

It’s a win win for small rooms as the continuity of color gives the appearance of space, making a room look wider than it is.

3. Uncluttered look even in busy rooms

It’s a great little trick for making a space look uncluttered even if you have a lot of furniture in there.

4. Disguise the ugly stuff

It’s a fab and easy way of disguising any necessary furniture that is a bit ugly but you can’t get rid of especially ugly radiators!

5. Big visual impact

Even thought it creates a harmonious look, it’s visually very impactful.  You don’t even have to do a whole room, just one wall with everything painted in the same color will add huge impact.

6. Change the look easily

It’s the perfect way to change the look of old shelves, cabinets, tables etc that you don’t have the budget to replace.  Once painted the same colour as the walls, they’ll look like they belong, no matter how imperfect they looked before.

7. Stylish looks on a tiny budget

Last but not least your room will look fabulously chic and designed with just a tin of paint.

There are lots of benefits of matching the color of your walls and furniture but I’ve included lots of pics because the pictures speak a 1000 words.

Tone on tone works great but you could also try adding a different shade of the same colour – either a bit lighter or darker or go for different textures in the same color. If you’re a pattern lover, you could even use subtle patterns in the same shade and you can’t go wrong.  There are so many ways to make this room color idea unique to you and your home.

You can also paint the walls in the same color as your sofa – it will help bring an old sofa to life and make it seamlessly fit in to the room.  And don’t forget, curtains too can be matched to the wall color.  The best part is that you can take this idea and run with it in any room including kitchens and bathrooms.
