Sculptural elegance: Kizu portable lamp by New Works review

best portable lamp review

I never truly realised just how useful portable lamps are until I bought one. Portable lamps are so versatile because they can be placed practically anywhere. If you have a dark corner where cables can’t reach or a table without a nearby socket, a portable lamp is the easy answer.

So I thought I would share a review of my portable light and how I’m using it in case it helps you, especially if you’re considering buying one. And for full disclosure – this lamp is not gifted, I bought it for myself.

Kizu portable lamp design

After I shared a bunch of my favourite portable lights I decided to buy the Kizu portable lamp by New Works for myself and I’m so happy with it. Firstly the sculptural design is both minimal and striking. The smooth marble base is paired with an inverted acrylic shade.

The visual contrast between the heavy stone base and the (almost) floating acrylic dome is what makes this lamp so stunning.  My base is white marble but you can choose from a range of neutral toned marble shades that include light and dark tones. And each lamp even in the same colour is different because the marble pattern varies.

Kizu portable lamp functionality

The Kizu portable lamp has a three-step dimmer making it ideal for various situations. The brightest is enough for reading while the dimmest is perfect for a creating a soft glow anywhere. From my experience, the lamp lasts a good 10 hours before it needs charging.

How I’m using my Kizu portable lamp

I’ve currently got two of these portable lamps which I’m using as bedside table lights. I bought these because I hate seeing wires trailing and so I thought this might be the perfect solution which it turned out to be. With the long battery life, I only need to charge it around once a month even though I use the lamp every night and often at other times around the home.

Where else I’m using my Kizu portable lamp

There are times when I don’t want harsh overhead lighting in the kitchen and so this portable lamp is perfect for providing a soft glow, especially when I have friends over and we’re just chatting. It’s also really handy in the garden on those warm evenings when you want to stay out after dark, and I sometimes use it as a desk light when I don’t want the main light on. The light also often acts as a table lamp in the living room too. These are just a few examples but this light can be used practically anywhere.

Whether perched on a nightstand, styled on a shelf, or glowing softly on a dining table, the Kizu adds a warm light wherever you place it. And the design is so simple yet striking. Even thought I’ve got two, I’m tempted to get a third in the new kunis breccia marble shade because I know I’ll easily find a use for it.

You can shop the Kizu portable lamp here and it’s currently on sale too.

Thanks for the review. I had my eye on this lamp but wasn’t sure if there would be enough light for late night bedtime reading – you’ve answered my question!

Glad you found the review helpful – for me, the light is enough for reading. Also I think this light is so useful and beautiful. Let me know if you get it and which color. 🙂
