I’ve been planning a full bedroom refresh for a while but since I don’t have any budget I’m trying to save up first. But there was one corner of my bedroom that I really wanted to change in the meantime. That corner is my bedside table area and while I liked how it looked before, I felt it was missing the warmth and cosiness that I was craving.
Aside from wanting a cosier look for that corner, I believe that small refreshes are always a good idea. They’re usually easy and affordable but can still transform the space. Even things as simple as switching up or adding artwork, changing bedding or giving a room a fresh coat of paint can all make a huge difference. And doing these little refreshes regularly means you won’t get bored of your space.
Below is the before and after pic of my bedroom corner:
The changes I made were small and budget-friendly but the result is a completely new look. Here’s what I did:
swapping out the bedside light
As you can see from the pics the change with the biggest visual impact was swapping out the hanging bedside lamp for a portable table lamp. I made this DIY hanging bedside light ages ago (it’s still one of my most popular DIY’s) and I used it for a long time but I felt it was time for a change. Even though it’s just a switch up of a bedside light, this one change has transformed how this corner looks.
changing the bedside table
The next change I made was the bedside table. The biggest reason for this change was that I wanted some closed storage to keep things out of sight. I got this budget-friendly bedside table from IKEA, removed the legs as it didn’t look quite right with the legs, and I wall mounted it. The bedside table has one drawer and one open shelf which was perfect.
switching the bedding
The next change I made was the bedding. Not only was my grey bedding getting worn but I really wanted to move away from grey to make the space feel cosier. So I opted for a white linen duvet cover paired with a beige linen bedcover. With the bedcover I sometimes only cover the bed partially for a casual look but at other times I cover the whole bed for a more refined look.
adding an artwork
The last change I made was adding a framed picture. The wall has been bare for way too long and I knew it needed something. Just a small framed print was enough to add a little interest without looking overpowering.
Here are a few more pics of the after:
As you can see, the largest piece of furniture, the bed, is the same. But despite that, changing the much smaller things around the bed have made the space look like a different room. It’s a small change but that’s the thing with small changes, they can transform a space. We don’t always need to change the entire room to give it a fresh look.
