Minimal wooden DIY fridge magnets

DIY fridge magnets

I’ve been meaning to make myself some DIY fridge magnets for ages.  They’re so simple to make at home and the best part is that you can go for something that works with your decor.  Recently I came across these brass magnets and I was smitten.  It inspired me to get making my own and I decided to use smooth, natural wooden balls to make my homemade fridge magnets.  I love the shape, look and feel of these wooden balls so I thought they would make beautiful, minimal fridge magnets.

This is such a simple DIY that it doesn’t really need a how to but there are one or two things I learned as I made them so I have shared those tips below.

Materials:
Wooden balls (35mm)
Slim and small magnets (I used 12mm x 2mm)
Very strong glue
Coarse sand paper

I went for pretty chunky wooden balls as I wanted them to stand out and I love the minimal, natural wood colour so I left them as they were.  I used my sandpaper to sand down one side of the wooden ball – the place where I was going to stick the magnet on. I sanded a lot to flatten that side of the ball and to give it a good grip for the glue.  This helped the glue and magnet stay well attached to the ball. And then using a glue gun on the high setting, I squeezed a bit of glue on to the ball where I’d sanded and stuck the magnet in place.  I found it stuck much better when I put the glue on the ball rather than the magnet.  I know, super easy right?  And they look so great.

Sometimes it’s the simplest DIY ideas that are the best and even though there is not much to do here, it’s one of my favourite little projects as I love how these DIY fridge magnets look.  What do you think? Do you think you’ll make these fridge magnets?
