Make these cute DIY valentines cards

DIY cute valentines cards

Do you celebrate valentines day?  I’m not in to the whole commercial side of it but I think it’s nice to acknowledge the day in some way.  I usually do something like make a cake or a special meal at home.  And I always like to give my hubby and daughter a card.  Every year I promise myself that I’ll make the cards as handmade cards are so much nicer to give.   And this year I finally made my own DIY valentines cards.

I was inspired by the whole message in a bottle thing and so decided to make paper bottles filled with confetti and a sweet little message inside.  These DIY valentines cards are easy to make and they look so cute.  They would be great for kids to give their friends and I also love them to give to your gal pals, especially if you’re in to the whole galantines thing.

Here’s how to make these DIY valentines cards.

Materials:
Good quality thick tracing paper (I used 112gsm)
Glue gun
Kraft paper
Pritt stick
pencil, ruler and scissor
confetti

handmade diy valentines cards1.Draw out a simple bottle and lid shape and cut these out to use as your templates.  Fold a small piece of tracing paper in two and draw your bottle on the tracing paper.

2. Cut out the bottle you’ve drawn so now you will have two bottles which need to be glued together.

3. Using your glue gun on low heat, glue the bottles together to form one bottle.  (Note: because it’s tracing paper, regular craft glue like pritt stick doesn’t work very well). Put a very thin line of glue around the edges only – no more than 1-2 mm in and make sure you glue only ⅔rds of the way up the bottle.  This is so that the neck and top of the bottle remains open so you can later put your message and confetti in the bottle.

4. Now draw out your bottle lids on black card. Again, fold the card in two so that you cut out 2 bottle lids each time.

4. Using your pritt stick or similar, glue one lid to the front of the bottle and the other to the back.  Remember, you want to make sure you have an opening in the bottle.

5. Next print or write out your bottle sleeve on kraft paper and cut them in to strips.

6. Glue the strips to form a sleeve and slip over your bottle.

7. Finally, slip in your note and some confetti.

These ‘message in a bottle’ DIY valentines cards are not only fun to make but are so fun to hand out too. Do you think you’ll make these cards, this valentines?
