While I’m not into the whole creepy Halloween vibe, I do love pumpkins. They’re such a classic symbol of fall and they make beautiful seasonal decorations. Pumpkins, whether real or crafted, can add a cosy touch to any fall vignette. And they’re not just for October either. Pumpkins make great decorations throughout autumn.
Every year I like to decorate with pumpkins in my home. Sometimes I buy a bunch of them and simply use them as decorations for my dining table or kitchen island. Other times I make pumpkin inspired crafts to use as decor. Either way, decorating with pumpkins adds a simple and stylish festive touch to your home. Below are five ways to decorate with pumpkins this season; some require a little DIY time while others are super quick and simple.
5 ways to decorate with pumpkins for autumn

1. Patterned Pumpkins
This is such a simple and pretty way to decorate pumpkins. Here they’ve used nail polish and tiny stencils but you can just as easily use paint and a paint brush. It’s the scalloped pumpkins that really stood out to me. I love the contrast of the white pumpkins with the deep burgundy and also the scalloped design that’s so simple but yet so striking.
2. Clay Pumpkins
Clay is one of my favourite crafting materials so I decided to make some clay pumpkins. But I thought why not make them into something useful and decorative so I created these pumpkin shaped candle holders. Though pumpkin shaped, they’re subtle enough to use through autumn and winter whenever you want to light some tall candles. I often use them as dining table decor when I have friends over for dinner.

3. Sweater Pumpkins
These pumpkins made from thrifted sweaters are as cosy as can be! You can also make them with boucle or make a mix of both for extra texture. Making these sweater pumpkins does require some basic sewing skills and a little time but once made you can use them year after year.
4. Pumpkin Display
If you don’t have the time to DIY, creating a simple display with real pumpkins is the answer. Get a few pumpkins in different shapes, sizes and colours, add some dried stems and add a candle or tea light or two and arrange them on a mantle, console table or a long shelf. Real pumpkins last ages so this decoration will last through the season and add a cosy, festive touch to your space. And there’s no right or wrong way to do this — you can be a minimal or abundant as you like with your display.
5. Decoupage Pumpkins
You might think you need some serious painting skills to recreate these pumpkins but the good news is you don’t! These are decoupage pumpkins decorated with ordinary paper napkins and mod podge. Here they’ve gone for a chinoiserie design but you can recreate this with any paper napkins you like. Think floral, graphic patterns, foliage or anything at all.
