You’ve likely heard of colour drenching where you saturate every surface of a room in one colour or 2-3 shades of the same colour. Today’s home tour — of an apartment in Berlin — takes this idea a step further by saturating an entire apartment in different shades of pink. Aside from a green hallway, every room in this Berlin home is pink and it looks so amazing.
Colour drenching is a great way to add colour to a home especially for minimalists. Since you stick to one colour (or shades of the same colour) the space never looks “colorful” if that makes sense. Instead it looks calm and cohesive much like this apartment.
While minimally decorated, this apartment is a bit empty as I think these pics were taken once the residents had moved out so it’s even more sparse than it would be. That said, I still wanted to share it as it’s such a great example of colour drenching done right.
The open plan living space including the living room, kitchen and dining area are painted in a beautiful soft pink similar to this shade of pink paint. The pink seems to have a hint of peach and has a wonderful softness and calmness to it. It pairs so well with the pale wooden floors and the white accents.
The hallway outside the living room is painted in a green shade which has grey undertones. This is the only space that is painted in a colour other than pink. This green hue really frames the pink beautifully and adds a subtle contrast. Here’s a similar shade of green paint in case you want to try this colour in your own home.
The brightness of the pink in the bedroom looks a little different in the top and bottom pic due to lighting. That said, this shade of pink is definitely bolder than the pink in the living areas. This works so well because everything else is pared back and there are no other colours in the bedroom so it doesn’t look busy or visually cluttered. Here’s a pink paint that’s quite bold if you’re tempted by this look.
I’ve included a picture of the bedroom door because I love the rusty-orange light switch that provides a small but striking contrast against the sea of pink. It’s little details like this that take a space from good to great!
