Nestled deep in the Swedish forests lies this serene home designed by Norm Architects. Large windows are seen throughout the home not only to maximise views of the natural surroundings and allow a seamless indoor-outdoor feel but also to allow as much natural light in as possible.
The home has been decorated in natural materials and neutral tones with wood being the dominant material paired with a few stone accents. Even though this home is minimally decorated and mostly without colour, it still feels very warm and cosy because of the warmth that all the wood brings.
This forest home is small but it doesn’t look or feel small because of the way it’s been decorated. Aside from the simplicity of the decor and the neutral colour scheme, the home also features some clever space-saving ideas.
The internal doors, for instance, are slim and tall which ensures that they take up as little space as possible while their height makes the ceilings appear taller. Another space saving idea used here is having larger and even wall to wall furniture which again makes small spaces appear visually larger.
The living room, though entirely neutral, has plenty of visual interest through the use of contrasting textures and shapes. Things like the (AFF) sheepskin armchair, the organically shaped side table and the (AFF) sofa with curved edges make this living room feel warm and inviting. The large windows that stretch across two of the walls of this room ensure plenty of natural light and a feeling of being in nature.
Even though I love the entire home, this is my favourite area. A minimalist daybed that stretches across the picture window is the perfect way to enjoy the forest view. As with other parts of the home, there are carefully chosen details like the (AFF) jute rug, linen curtains and rustic wooden pedestal that all contribute to creating a simple yet stylish space.
Once again there is a picture window in the kitchen ensuring fab views. The wood theme of the home continues in this serene kitchen-diner. The wooden cabinets have been paired with stone countertops for contrast and the use of mis-matched dining chairs adds interest.
Though small, there is plenty of built-in storage ensuring that the kitchen looks visually calm and clutter-free. The storage units have doors identical to the bedroom doors keeping the look cohesive.
While this home is minimalist, there’s still plenty of visual interest in every space whether that’s the rooms or the connecting spaces. Decorative objects, wall hangings and artworks are dotted around the home preventing it from looking too sparse or empty. There are also smaller details like the brass door handles and hinges and small stone accents. The objects and details are carefully chosen to add texture and depth which is so important for a minimalist interior like this one.
