Who doesn’t love an IKEA hack? I love them. Some IKEA hacks take time and effort but others are as quick and easy as a paint job. I have just one of these hacks for you today.
I’d been wanting a black framed wall mirror for my bedroom but each one I liked was way more than my budget. The cheaper ones I found looked, well… cheap. I wanted something that was a bit more designed than your standard rectangular mirror while still being minimal.
Soon after, on a trip to IKEA I found the perfect mirror but it was only available in a minty green which wasn’t right for my bedroom. It was very reasonably priced as you’d expect from IKEA and had a simple but stylish shape. I realised the frame was made of powder coated steel which meant that I was a quick paint job away from having this mirror in black.
And that’s exactly what I did — I slipped the mirror out of the frame and spray painted it black. I love that it looks more expensive than before just with some spray paint.
If you want to do this IKEA mirror hack, I recommend using spray paint as you’ll get the most even finish. I also went for matt black paint as this again gives it a higher end look.
As for the mirror, I love the simple yet stylish design. The round hook that it hangs from compliments the rounded edges of the mirror but provides a subtle contrast to the straight lines.
But that’s not all because this mirror has another clever use — it hangs a little away from the wall as the lower part of the mirror is designed to be used as a hanger for accessories and more. This is such a great idea especially if you have a small bedroom or if you want to use this mirror in your entryway.
Since I got my mirror, IKEA have introduced a small version of this which is super cute! It’s perfect for a small bathroom, entryway or a powder room. It only comes in pink but of course you can spray it in any colour you like.
