home tour | a calm pale grey and white Swedish home

light grey and white living room

For the latest home tour, I’ve got this calm and soothing Scandinavian home. It’s decorated entirely in pale grey and white with a few decorative accents for a hint of colour. The decor is simple and intentional. I can imagine stepping into this home and feeling at ease at once.

This Swedish home shows how simple decor can really shine. Everything is pared back, including the colour palette, yet this home is so inviting and relaxing. There are a few thoughtfully placed pieces of decor in each room which add interest and depth. Also, in this home, they’ve paid attention to sight lines — the view from one room to another — which is a design aspect so many of us overlook.

The living room is painted in the palest shade of grey with the slightest beige undertone. Even though the colour is so pale, it creates a contrast against the white woodwork and white ceiling. Simplicity is the theme running through this home without compromising comfort, practicality and style. A few decorative objects are dotted around the room including small but eye-catching sculptures, while plants and cushions provide a hint of colour to this neutral living room.

This is a small, one bedroom apartment so they’ve cleverly used the walls by the door of the living room to add some built-in storage. Painted the same colour as the walls, it looks seamless and subtle. Curtain-less windows — which is quite common in Swedish homes — allow maximum natural light making this space bright and light.

Decorated just as simply as the rest of the home, the dining room features a rustic wooden table paired with timeless Fritz Hansen chairs. There are a few standout pieces that make this room so striking — the clear glass bubble light (which you can find here – AFF), the large artwork and that giant shell. It goes to show that just a few intentionally chosen pieces can create so much interest and style in a room. The dining room is painted in the same pale grey as the living room and there’s a tall plant that adds a hint of colour.

As you can see, the dining room is a space between the bedroom and living room. As the dining room is a “through” room, they have paid a lot of attention to the sight lines — both on the bedroom side and the living room side.

If you love minimalist decor that’s still cosy and warm, this bedroom is for you. Decorated in a slightly darker shade of grey than the other rooms and paired with lots of white and natural wood, this bedroom is beautiful in it’s simplicity. It looks like such a calm and inviting place, just as a bedroom should be.

The raw pine floors add a lovely contrast to white linen bedding (get similar here – AFF) and linen curtains. A few small artworks are dotted around the room and that rattan bench is the perfect accent piece for this room.

Decorations are kept to just enough to create interest while still keeping the look minimal. And for the eagle eyed amongst you, you’ve probably spotted that there are lots of IKEA pieces which just shows that you don’t need to spend a lot to get a stylish, warm minimalist look.

The small and simply designed kitchen features light grey cabinets and white walls. There are plenty of wooden accents as well as the beautiful raw pine floor. I love how they’ve used the space to maximise storage and fit in a dining table for four. Also, the corridor leading in to the kitchen has been cleverly used to store extra seating without taking up any floor space — perfect for small space living.

This Swedish home is so calm, cosy and beautiful and shows that simplicity is often the best when it comes to decor.
