For the latest home tour, I’m featuring this stunning home located in Ningbo, China — designed by Yumalin. Featuring a mix of dark and light wooden tones, lots of natural materials like stone and clay and a feeling of calm throughout the home.
This two bedroom apartment measures around 1000 sq ft (100sqm) so isn’t particularly large but the way it’s been decorated makes it feel so much more spacious than it is. The decor is minimalist with a mix of Scandinavian and Japanese (Japandi) influences. The colours are neutral throughout with lots of raw and rustic textures giving this home an earthy minimalist feel.
The living room is a cosy space with all the dark brown and beige tones and all the beautiful textures. The linen sofa, the rustic wooden coffee table, the natural jute rug and the textured art all come together to create such a warm minimalist living space. Even the walls are painted with textured paint adding depth and interest.
You have a mix of angular furniture and curved pieces which is very much a part of Japandi interiors and it also softens the look of a room. The plant adds a hint of colour as well as a sculptural dimension to the room. The contrast of dark and light tones is what creates interest while still keeping the overall look minimal.
The entire living space is an open plan area with the dining room just beyond the living room and the kitchen occupies one wall of the dining area. By leaving empty space around each area, this open plan room has breathing space, making it feel larger than it is.
The combination of a modern white kitchen with a rustic dining room is striking. The stone floors add more rusticity to the space while the smooth kitchen surfaces create contrast. The organic shape of the aged wood dining able and the dark wood tones create drama and interest against all the white.
Like the rest of this earthy, minimalist home, the bedroom embraces the same dark wood tones paired with light walls. Everything is once again about maximising texture in this bedroom too. The wood panelling creates a divider but also adds so much warmth to this room. Decorated in Japanese style mixed with Scandi style minimalism, this bedroom is such a soothing oasis.
What strikes me most about this earthy, minimalist home is the contrast of textures and the striking mix of light and dark decor. They have balanced it perfectly to create such a serene and inviting home.
