Everybody loves fairy lights, right? Fairy lights aren’t just for Christmas. They add a little touch of magic and fantasy in any room, especially a kids room. And for a kids room, I always want lots of magic, fantasy and whimsy – a space that feeds the imagination, where endless adventures feel possible. Little twinkling fairy lights do just this. It can be a boys room, a girls room or a shared room – by adding something as simple and inexpensive as fairy lights you can add a touch of magic. Here are a few fun ways to decorate with fairy lights in a kids room:
A lovely way to add fairy lights to a kids room with a little extra magic is to buy (or make) a wire shaped star, heart, moon or cloud and weave the lights around the shape as they’ve done in the beautiful kids rooms above. I also love the cloth star lantern which is filled with fairy lights – another idea that can work with any cloth lantern.
Turn your fairy lights in to a picture hanger! What a great idea and a great way to personalise them. You can hang vintage family photo’s like in the room above or I love the idea of hanging kids artwork too.
House shaped beds are all the rage in kids room. For something a bit more unique (and a lot cheaper!), try hanging up your fairy lights in a house shape and making a magical headboard for your kids. Of course you don’t have to go for a house shape – it could be any shape at all.
Fairy lights and tipi’s were made for each other. Kids love hiding out in their tipis and pretend playing so why not add an extra bit of magic by adding fairy lights to it like in this charming room. It will make such an enchanting hiding/reading/playing space – I don’t think my kid would ever come out!
Luckily there is no right way or wrong way to decorate with fairy lights. Just having them there adds magic. So for the easiest and quickest way just twist the lights around a wall decoration like in the stylish kids room above. Or around a shelf, a picture or anything on the wall. Alternatively, trail the lights around the wall and ceiling like in the cute room in the second pic. This works especially well in an attic room with eaves.
Are you tempted to decorate with fairy lights? I know I am and not just for a kiddy space – I’m thinking I could do with some in my bedroom too!

I love the house shaped lights! I think this will very soon be added to the mini one’s room! I wanted to buy her a duck egg / metallic bed but from looking at these pics it just occurred to me I could just SPRAY a bed that colour… ohh the possibilities are endless!

A great idea isn’t it? And so simple and inexpensive. Duck egg is a beautiful colour and yes you could just spray the bed. Would look so lovely with the fairy lights as the headboard.
